Insects & Arachnids Posted on April 2, 2012 by admin Spring is a wonderful time of year to study insects and arachnids. Students studied different insects for this drawing. We made these cards for insect charades. Mixed media grasshopper. Crafting these beautiful insects provided an opportunity to discuss the various features of insects as well as a creative outlet. Each name insect was made by using the reflection of a name to create a symmetrical form, which could then be decorated as an insect. Another art project that helped us to study symmetry. These simple crafts now adorn our building. So many beautiful butterflies! Jokes are a wonderful way to develop literacy. This poster served as a matching game for ant anatomy. Studying arachnids alongside insects provided an opportunity to compare and contrast the two groups. This drawing was used to discuss spider anatomy. A student used an egg carton to make her own set of “spider eyes”. One of our students created this game while the other students were discussing arachnids.
